Popular Bets for University of Michigan vs Michigan State Game
-
Moneyline The moneyline betting will settle near Michigan -1400, Michigan State +1200. Michigan State won this matchup in East Lansing as recently as 2021, but Kenneth Walker, who ran for 197 yards and 5 TDs that day, is not walking back through that door.
-
Props Michigan is super efficient both in the air and on the ground. Something like “Blake Corum Over/Under 91.5 yards rushing” will be on the prop board.
-
Totals (Over/Under) The early total points betting line has the over/under at 57.5. Michigan has not allowed more than 10 points in a game all season, so either Sparty will have to break that string, or it will be a blowout.
-

Where to Place Bets on University of Michigan vs. Michigan State
Michigan-Michigan State is a huge rivalry game between brand-name programs. All the sportsbooks have posted odds since it debuted as one of the games of the year back in the spring. The luster is off a bit given Michigan State's difficult season, but that has not cooled the betting markets.
2023-2024 Michigan State vs University of Michigan Wolverines Predictions
Michigan has national title aspirations and has plowed through a relatively easy schedule thus far. The big tests lie ahead, with Penn State and Ohio State still on the docket. If any of those three beat the other two, they will almost certainly get to the college football playoff. Michigan State is only two seasons removed from national relevance but is just trying to get through the turmoil of the 2023 season. Knocking “Big Brother” here at home would make their season. Never count a team out in a rivalry game, but it looks like a daunting task here.
A History of the University of Michigan vs. Michigan State Rivalry
These two bitter rivals have met 114 times in a series that dates back to 1898. They have faced off annually since 1945, which will continue for at least five years and (presumably) forever in the super-sized Big Ten. This is a protected game in the new “Flex Protect XVIII” scheduling model. The winner walks home with the Paul Bunyan – Governor of Michigan Trophy and bragging rights for a calendar year.
Michigan leads the series with a 72–38–5, but that has not come without occasional Michigan State runs. Most recently, the Spartans took 7 of 8 from 2008 to 2015 and also won the 2020 and 2021 games.
Top 7 Games Between Michigan State vs. University of Michigan Wolverines
10/30/2021: Michigan State 37-Michigan 33
Both schools came into this game 7-0 or better for the first time. Michigan State won behind RB Kenneth Walker’s 197 yards and 5 TD’s. The ultimately brief Mel Tucker coaching era at Michigan State peaked here.
10/17/2015: Michigan State 27-Michigan 23
Michigan led 23-20 with 10 seconds left in Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverine coaching debut. All they had to do was successfully execute a punt from midfield. Then disaster struck. “Trouble with the snap” turned into a Spartan scoop, score, and a win for undefeated and 7th-ranked Michigan State.
11/3/2007: Michigan 28-Michigan State 24
A Super Bowl champion quarterback from Michigan retired from the NFL after the 2022 season. I am, of course, referring to Chad Henne. In 2007, he led the Wolverines to two late TDs and a dramatic comeback win in a game more famous for the debut of the postgame “little brother” characterization of Michigan State courtesy of Michigan running back Mike Hart.
10/30/2004: Michigan 45-Michigan State 37
Underdog Michigan State led 27-10 in the 4th quarter in Ann Arbor, but the Wolverines' furious late rally tied it up at 27 and sent the game to overtime. After a TD and field each in the first two OT periods, Michigan WR Braylon Edwards caught a TD in the third overtime, and the Spartans could not match. Edwards would finish the game with 189 yards and 3 TD's.
11/3/2001: Michigan State 26-Michigan 24
This dramatic, last-second win for the Spartans is known as the “Clockgate” game in Ann Arbor. Down 24-20, the Michigan State QB scrambled and was stopped just a yard short of the end zone as time was about to expire. The Spartans ran to the line and spiked the ball, but it looked too late. Alas, the hometown timekeeper stopped the clock before the spike, and Michigan State got one more play, which they used for a TD pass to TJ Duckett and a dramatic win. The Big Ten changed its policy for future games using neutral timekeepers.
10/13/1990: Michigan State 28-Michigan 27
Unranked Michigan State shocked top-ranked Michigan. The Wolverines scored a TD with 6 seconds left to pull within a point. They elected to go for two and win back in an era before overtime. The pass to Wide receiver and future Heisman Trophy winner and College Gameday staple Desmond Howard fell incomplete, but it looked like clear interference, at least to the Michigan side.
10/14/1978: Michigan State 24-Michigan 15
Unranked Michigan State went into Ann Arbor and shocked the 5th-ranked Wolverines led by wide receiver Kirk Gibson. Yes, that Kirk Gibson.
