Michigan In Top Quarter Of States

BetMichigan.com used data points from Statista, Forbes Business and Google Trends to start. Specifically, we measured the percentage of single-person households in each state according to Statista, the average search volumes of inquires “date ideas,” “first date activities near me,” and “florists near me” at Google Trends, and the average annual income for a single person at Forbes Business. We crunched all of these numbers to create our Dating Index for all 50 states plus Washington, D.C.

When we added it all up, Michigan came out pretty well, ranking No. 13. Among other states in Big Ten country – this is the part where Michigan sports betting might come to mind – Ohio is No. 6, Illinois is ninth, followed by Minnesota at No. 10 and Pennsylvania at No. 11.

Michigan Date Night Highlights

A lot of folks say that they love hiking when they fill out their dating profiles, and Michigan gives them plenty of chances to prove it. The Michigan.gov website says there are more than 4,020 miles of state-designated hiking trails around the state – plus 2,085 miles of biking trails for those wishing to get a good workout as they get to know their date. There are even dozens of state parks with snowmobile trails open in winter – though that might make those get-to-know-you conversations a little tough.

If your date is more into being a sports fan, Michigan offers a lot there as well. So after you place your wagers on Michigan sportsbook apps, you can take in a Lions, Pistons, Red Wings or Tigers game – or take your date back to your old alma mater for college sporting events at dozens of institutions.

For something a bit more sedate, Michigan offers lakefront views and beaches aplenty, where you and your date can hunt for the official state wildflower, the rare Dwarf Lake Iris. The U.S. Forest Service website says the flower (or Iris lacustris), with its lovely blue or purple petals, is found only in Michigan and Wisconsin, plus the Canadian province of Ontario. But it’s a threatened species with reduced habitat, so if you’re tempted to pluck some for your date, perhaps just stick to the florist instead.
