What Seed Is Michigan State For March Madness? Odds of Spartans Men’s Basketball Seed For 2025 NCAA Tournament

Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

Whoever said that Tom Izzo’s lost his fastball was sorely mistaken. The legendary Michigan State men’s basketball head coach is at it again, with the Spartans out to a red-hot, 18-2 start to the 2024-25 regular season, including 9-0 in Big Ten play.

Fresh off Sparty’s latest conquest, a 22-point of Minnesota on Tuesday night in East Lansing, Michigan State has moved up to 14th in the latest KenPom.com rankings. According to ESPN bracket guru Joe Lunardi, Izzo and company are projected to be a third seed in the East region, playing 14th seeded Jacksonville in Providence.

BetMGM Michigan Sportsbook has MSU as the Big Ten betting favorite at -110 odds as of Jan. 30. BetMichigan.com compiled odds on where we see Izzo’s team being seeded in the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

These seeding odds for Michigan State were developed solely for BetMichigan.com, but operators offering real money Michigan sports betting bonuses have wagering options galore for college basketball.

The Spartans are No. 17 in the NCAA NET ratings, with a 5-2 record against Quad 1 teams. They have 10 games remaining against current Quad 1 rivals.

Michigan State NCAA Tournament Seed Possibilities

Our top pick for MSU, seeding wise, is for them to be a second seed, at +250 odds. We list a No. 3 regional seed as the next likeliest outcome, at +365, followed by a fourth seed (+600) and a No. 1 seed (+635). Michigan State has been a top seed five times in the NCAA Tournament over the years, including four times during Izzo’s 30 seasons in charge.

If the Spartans struggle down the stretch, they could fall to a No. 5 seed; we have that as a 9.3% possibility, equivalent to +975 odds at Michigan sports betting outlets.

For now, Izzo and the Spartans will look to pick up a 10th consecutive conference victory when Michigan State plays unranked USC in Los Angeles on Saturday. After that, MSU heads West on Interstate 10 and up the 405 to Pauley Pavilion to play UCLA on Tuesday night. Both L.A. schools are newcomers to the Big Ten this season, along with Oregon and Washington.

From there, MSU has four games against teams that are currently ranked left. Sparty hosts 16th-ranked Oregon on Feb. 8 and visits 18th-ranked Illinois on Feb. 15. Farther down the line, the Spartans host No. 10 Purdue (on Feb. 18) and No. 17 Wisconsin (March 2) in their quest to improve by a seeding line or two before Selection Sunday.

That all leads to March Madness, the capper for college basketball betting in Michigan and one of the biggest wagering events of any kind on the American sports calendar.
